You are Precious and Unique

This morning I read books to my son in the nursery. As I read Nancy Tillman’s book, The Night You Were Born, I cried tears of joy and gratitude. Much like described in the book, every child is precious and unique. Each child changes the world with their presence. The challenge is to keep seeing all people as precious and unique as the years go by.  According to the book, the world would never be the same since my baby (the baby of the reader) arrived. I know he has already changed my world. I already thought I had a big heart, but being a mom has helped me reach an expanded version of love and compassion. Being a mom has helped me to appreciate all the love my parents had for me growing up.
When we can see every person as precious and unique, we can more easily forgive people for not acting like we think they “should” have. Everyone was doing the best they could at the time. Everything happens for a reason. With this thought, we can better appreciate the divine plans made for each person. Within the divine plan, we all still have free will.

I am grateful for when I used my free will years ago to choose to be a stay-at-home mom one day my husband agreed. My son was 6 weeks old this past Friday! Since women who are returning to work often returned after 6 weeks, I often thought of what those women must be going through emotionally this past week. While I read to my son this morning, I cried thinking how unique and precious he is. I also felt for women who feel they have to return to work. Some people don’t want to be a stay-at-home mom and that’s fine. I felt for the people that feel they have to work to make ends meet, but would rather be a stay-at-home mom. Since we planned on this for a long time, we have made choices that helped our family be able to do this. I pray that corporations in America will use thier free will to have better maternity leave so women can stay with their babies longer. I am grateful to heard about more and more corporations giving paternity leave.

For those asking how I am, I had my 6 week check up with the doctor and I am healthy! She even commended me for pushing as long as I did during the birth. She asked me what type of birthing class I took saying, “you did as well or better than women who had an epidural.” I believe she told me this because I maintained my focus on breathing, kept my sense of humor, and… pushed for hours. I had a great support team though. There is plenty of credit to go around to all of my precious and unique team members. What makes you unique and precious?
