Practice Gratitude

When life seems intense or even if it seems boring or if life is fantastic, give gratitude for the good things in your life. Gratitude helps keep our heart centers open and helps you be able to receive more goodness into your life. Gratitude can also serve as a perspective check. When a situation or event seems difficult, I remember that all things are temporary, but I stop to make a quick prayerful list of the blessings in my life.

Normally, I would not suggest comparing yourself to others since we all have our own paths to walk. When I have a rough day, I do remember what I have in comparison to what could be. I remember that I have access to clean water and indoor plumbing. That may not seem like much if you have always lived your life with this, but there are many people around the world that spend hours walking each day to collect water. Think of all the time I have been given by having water readily available. I pray for those people that have a difficult time accessing clean water.

When my car has trouble, I pray in gratitude that I have a car that is paid off and has served me well for such a long time. I pray that whatever the issue it has is fixable. I am grateful to have a vehicle to help me go where I want to go. There are plenty of people that do not have car, by choice or necessity. Since I enjoy having one I pray in gratitude for this tool I use to¬†carry out my life’s work.

What I most like to pray in gratitude for are the people in my life. If you strip away all the “stuff”, what is left? The people, those relationships and your experiences. Give a couple minutes everyday to pray about what you are grateful for. I like to think about it right before bed, but do whatever time works for you. Saying this prayer gives me a sense of love, happiness, and peace. What are you grateful for? Peace be with you!
